Commonly Used Terminology

  • Recruitment Counselor (RC)

Serve as a confidant and sounding board as PNMs search for organizations that meet their needs and match their values. PNMs will receive their RC after registering for Primary Recruitment.

  • Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (MRABA)

The Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (MRABA) is a one-year binding agreement that is signed by PNMs following the preference round of formal recruitment. The PNM ranks the chapters that they returned to during the final round of recruitment and agrees to accept a bid from either of the chapters listed (maximum of two). If the PNM denies a bid from the chapters listed on their MRABA, they are unable to accept a bid from any other organization for a year, or until the next primary recruitment. If the PNM is not offered a bid from either house on their MRABA, they are eligible for continuous open bidding (COB).

  • Continuous Open Bidding (COB)

COB, also known as Informal Recruitment, is a more casual process for joining a chapter. Not all chapters participate in Informal Recruitment every semester.

  • Potential New Member (PNM)

An individual who is eligible to participate in recruitment or join a sorority.

  • Single Intentional Preference

When a PNM only lists one chapter on their MRABA following Preference Round.

  • New Member

An individual who has accepted a bid from a chapter but has not yet been initiated into the organization.

  • Values Based Recruitment

Emphasis on values, like academics, equity, and service, throughout recruitment.

  • Meals

Chapters host opportunities for PNMs to meet members over a meal in the chapter house. Meals are a great chance for PNMs to ask any questions they may have regarding the sorority experience, recruitment process, or individual questions. These occur in the Fall semester prior to Primary Recruitment.

  • Panhel/Panhellenic Council

The governing body of the NPC sororities on campus.
